We’ve all been there and done that. Being so exhausted that you fall asleep on the sofa or maybe having a big night out celebrating and simply forgetting to take off your makeup before falling asleep. 

While it won’t do any significant harm once in a while, it is essential to remove your makeup before going to bed every night. We are here to tell you why!

Acne

When your makeup stays on your face all night long, it can clog your pores and lead to dreaded acne. While pimples or blackheads can appear at any time of your life, to avoid them, follow a good skincare routine. e

Dull Skin

Overnight, your skin cells repair and rejuvenate, so you look fresh and healthy in the morning. When your skin is covered in a layer of makeup, that healing process isn’t so effective. The result can be skin that looks dull and tired. It can also lead to fine lines and wrinkles in the long term.

Dry Skin

Even if you use the best quality makeup, leaving it on your face overnight can cause dryness and irritation. Mascara and eyeliner can get into your eyes as you sleep and cause itchiness or even infection. 

Aging

Leaving your makeup on while you sleep can cause premature aging, fine lines and wrinkles. Unfortunately, out of all the effects, this one is the hardest to reverse. 

Even when you can’t be bothered, make the extra effort to remove your makeup. The reward is glowing skin that looks bright and healthy. Ideally, you should use a three-step cleansing, toning and moisturizing routine with serum and eye cream. At a pinch makeup removal wipes will be better than leaving your makeup on. But your skin also really needs that recommend skincare routine complete with moisturizing in the morning with a light cream and before bed with a deeper hydrating night cream.
